The 5 interlinking stories are based on real life experiences, and
research in schools. They deal with such issues as teenage drinking...
drug use... casual sex... unwanted pregnancy... family breakdown. The
preventive strategies outlined are relevant to any problem situation,
big or small.
Each story develops in a way which encourages the reader to speculate
and discuss the issues before story endings are revealed. The characters
clearly demonstrate that safe choices can be made, despite adverse
pressures and influences.
WORKING IT OUT focuses on what is most relevant and important to
teenagers themselves: the way they feel when personal problems arise.
Then, it shows how best to handle these problems:
WORKING IT OUT is refreshingly entertaining and
thought-provoking!
Teenagers can feel isolated, leaving them vulnerable to pressures and
influences on their lives and health which they would prefer to avoid -
if they knew how.
WORKING IT OUT shows how. It demonstrates how they can exercise control
over their decision-making. It challenges them to accept responsibility
for their health and well being. It explains how they can make good
choices. It proves they don't have to "go it alone". An important
contribution to Health and Human Relations... Life Education... Personal
Development... Religious Education... Pastoral Care.
WORKING IT OUT
is now widely used by parents and teenagers in the home, teenage
counsellors and youth workers, and in the classroom. It is a practical
resource for teachers increasingly faced with the dual roles of educator
and counsellor.
